Amir’s Heritage

The Amir Chakhmaq Complex is a prominent structure in Yazd, Iran, noted for its symmetrical sunken alcoves. The complex contains a mosque, cold water well, a bazaar (a marketplace in the Interior corridor of structure) and a tekyeh (main and most known building in complex). a tekyeh is a place where Shias gather to mourn the killing of Imam Hussein. Such places are particularly found in Iran. They are usually traditionally designed with observable elements of Persian architecture.
The complex was built by Amir Jalaleddin Chakhmaq, governor of Yazd during the Timurid dynasty (15th-16th century CE).
These days the building is not in good condition. There are many cracks on the walls of building and according to one expert, one of two tall minarets of building were damaged. it has tilted about 14 cm (are reflected in the news media).
Furthermore, the marketplace of Amir Chakhmaq that located in interior corridor of the building has become a cultural problem.
While Amir Chakhmaq Complex has been introduced as a cultural symbol of Yazd, just below the main and symbolic building, there are marketplaces (with same oldness of the main building) that its usage, has caused concern for heritage lovers.
The marketplace in Interior corridor, contains more than 10 booths that most of them are sandwich, cheap restaurant and wholesale shops (rice, drink, cigarette, tobacco and etc. ). The remaining booths are unused and abandoned. also the story of outer part of marketplace are like as indoor. This place could be one of the most beautiful handicrafts sale centers in Yazd province.
These stores and their appearance, not good for a historical atmosphere that annually over five million tourists visit it.
This issue is not new, the media have repeatedly addressed to it, and performances of responsible organization have been criticized.
